Leading EDGE Awards to be presented May 16

Four Mohawk Valley companies who are on the Leading EDGE of innovation, growth and sustainability will be honored this spring when the thirteenth annual Leading EDGE Awards are presented. The Leading EDGE Awards are designed to recognize companies which are located in the Mohawk Valley and helping expand the region’s economy through investment and job growth.

This year’s honorees include:
• Feldmeier Equipment for undergoing an $8 million expansion of their Little Falls facility and creation of 80 jobs. Feldmeier is the number one provider and manufacturer of stainless steel tanks, vessels and silos, used in everything from craft breweries to yogurt production.
• Harden Furniture for their steady growth and recent $4 million modernization project that will create 10 jobs and retain 250 jobs at the McConnellsville facility. Established in 1844, Harden Furniture is the oldest North American furniture manufacturer.
• SUNY INSET for the creation of a “world class” educational institution with the most advanced, extensive and complete nanotechnology research and development infrastructure and academic nanotechnology degree portfolio of any university in the world.
• Utica Comets for their leading role in the revitalization of downtown Utica, improvements to the Utica Memorial Auditorium and creation of 50 jobs for young professionals.

Eugene Quadraro will be the honored with the Christopher Destito Leading EDGE Award. This award is given to someone who has had a lifelong commitment to the betterment of the Mohawk Valley. Quadraro currently is on the Oneida County Industrial Development Agency as well as the current president of the Board of Trustees of the Genesis Group. Quadraro retired from MetLife following a 37-year career that witnessed the growth of a back office operation of 100 employees to the current employment base of over 1,300. Quadraro is also involved with the Boilermaker Road Race, Utica College Board of Trustees and the Revolutionary Trails Boy Scout Council as well as many other volunteer organizations.

Dr. Alain Kaloyeros from SUNY College of Nanoscale Science and Engineering (CNSE) will be the keynote speaker at this year’s event. Kaloyeros is the Senior Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of SUNY CNSE and is leading the development and implementation of New York’s high-tech strategy to become a global leader in the nanotechnology-driven economy of the 21st century.

The Leading EDGE Awards luncheon will be held at noon on Friday, May 16 at Harts Hill Inn in Whitesboro. Individual tickets are $60 and tables of eight are $450, available by contacting Mohawk Valley EDGE, 338-0393 or online at www.mvedge.org.
