The mission of the Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL)
Information Directorate is to lead the discovery, development,
and integration of affordable warfighting information
technologies for our air, space, and cyberspace forces.
The Air Force Research Laboratory is the technology
development component of the Air Force Materiel Command
and is responsible for providing the Science and Technology
underpinning for all Air Force Systems. Both the Air Force
Materiel Command and the Air Force Research Laboratory
are headquartered at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base
near Dayton, OH. The Information Directorate, one of ten
directorates within the AFRL, is headquartered at the Rome
Research Site in Rome, NY.
The Information Directorate is on the cutting edge of
information technology development for today’s cyberspace
battlefield. We develop and integrate programs to acquire
data and find better ways to store, process, and fuse that
data into information. We create a means to deliver and
present secure, tailored information, enabling military decision
makers to have access to the entire sphere of information
necessary for successful operations.
The Information Directorate at Rome Research Site operates
a world-class research facility with an annual budget of $768
million consisting of 1,333 civilian and military government
employees and in-house supporting contractors – a vibrant
confluence of computer scientists, mathematicians, physicists,
professional technical support staff, electrical and computer
engineers, and information specialists.
